NIT MANAGEMENT VISITS THE PROSPECTIVE NIT LINDI CAMPUS.

The National Institute of Transport (NIT) management on February 8th, 2025, visited the Prospective NIT Lindi Campus to assess the progress of the campus designated for the development of a skilled workforce and technological innovation in the Maritime, Oil, and Gas sectors. This strategic visit marks an essential step in the development of the campus toward the realization of a world-class training facility aimed at equipping professionals with the expertise needed to meet the growing demands of the maritime professionals.The campus will play a pivotal role in strengthening Tanzania's human resource capacity in this field, ensuring the workforce is equipped with cutting-edge skills to meet global standards.

The NIT delegaation included the NIT Rector, Dr. Prosper L. Mgaya, Deputy Rector for Planning, Finance and Administration Dr. Zainabu Mshana, NIT maritime experts, and NIT Estate personnel. The delegation examined the proposed Land Use Plan of the designated land for the Campus at Kikwetu, where the project is expected to take shape in the coming months.

Accompanying the NIT delegation were representatives from the consulting firm M/s Edge Engineering and Consulting Limited, who will undertake the task of designing the Phase I campus infrastructures. During the visit, the consultants were shown the proposed land where the construction of Phase I buildings and training facilities will take place, including classrooms, workshops, staff offices, and a canteen.

During the visit, NIT Rector Dr. Mgaya expressed enthusiasm about the project, emphasizing that the campus would be a game-changer for Tanzania's economy by producing highly skilled technicians and experts who can contribute to the sustainable development of the maritime industry, with emphasis on Engineering and Technology Maritime training programmes. The Campus is also expected to provide professional and short-term training programmes aimed at boosting local economies (small-scale fishing) and fostering innovation in maritime technology and resource extraction.

Furthermore, Dr. Mgaya acknowledged the profound support NIT is receiving from the Government in advancing the institution's infrastructure development agenda. He emphasized that the government's commitment to establishing the Maritime Campus in Lindi demonstrated its vision for developing local expertise in the maritime, oil, and gas sectors.

The visit concluded with a briefing from the consulting company representative on the next steps in the design phase, with a timeline set for the completion of the campus facilities.

Chuo cha Taifa cha Usafirishaji (NIT) kimefanya kikao cha kawaida cha Baraza la Wafanyakazi tarehe 27 Juni, 2025 katika Ukumbi wa Midland Inn View Hotel, Dodoma. Kikao hicho kilitanguliwa na kikao cha Kamati ya Utendaji kilichofanyika Juni 26, 2025.

Kikao hicho kilifunguliwa na Katibu Mkuu wa Wizara ya Uchukuzi, Prof. Godius Kahyarara, ambaye alikipongeza chuo kwa kuandaa vikao vinavyodumisha ushirikiano wa watumishi na uongozi. Alisisitiza kuwa NIT iendelee kuzalisha wataalamu kutokana na ukuaji wa sekta ya usafirishaji unaoletwa na miradi kama SGR na ongezeko la ndege za ATCL. Aidha, alihimiza ushirikiano na vyuo vya nje kwa ajili ya maendeleo ya kiteknolojia.

Mwenyekiti wa Baraza la Uongozi wa Chuo, Prof. Obadia Mbamba, alishukuru Wizara kwa ushirikiano wake unaosaidia ustawi wa chuo. Viongozi wa vyama vya wafanyakazi wa THTU na RAAWU Taifa waliupongeza uongozi wa NIT kwa maandalizi bora ya kikao na kutoa motisha kwa watumishi (incentive) inayoongeza morali ya kazi.

Mkuu wa Chuo, Dkt. Prosper Mgaya, alimshukuru Prof. Kahyarara kwa kuwa mgeni rasmi na kuahidi kuendeleza vikao hivyo kwa kuzingatia sheria na kanuni husika.

Chuo cha Taifa cha Usafirishaji (NIT), kupitia Kituo chake cha Kikanda cha Umahiri katika Usalama Barabarani (RCoERS), kimeanza kutoa mafunzo maalum ya usalama barabarani kwa madereva wa magari makubwa ya mizigo, daladala na bodaboda katika Mkoa wa Pwani.

Akizungumza na washiriki wa mafunzo hayo yaliyofanyika tarehe 24 Juni, 2025 katika Stendi Kuu ya Mabasi ya Kibaha, Mkuu wa Kituo cha Umahiri cha Kikanda cha Usalama Barabarani – NIT, Ndg. Godlisten Msumanje, alisema kuwa lengo la mafunzo hayo ni kuwajengea uwezo madereva hao kutekeleza majukumu yao kwa weledi, huku wakizingatia sheria na kanuni za usalama barabarani ili kulinda usalama wao pamoja na wa abiria wanaowahudumia.

“NIT imeendelea kushirikiana na wadau mbalimbali wa sekta ya usafirishaji nchini kutoa elimu endelevu ya usalama barabarani kwa makundi mbalimbali katika jamii ili kuongeza uelewa wa usalama barabarani kwa watumiaji wote wa barabara,” alisisitiza Ndg. Msumanje.

Mafunzo haya yalianza rasmi tarehe 23 Juni, 2025 na yanatarajiwa kukamilika tarehe 27 Juni, 2025.

oday, June 24, 2025, twenty (20) Tanzanian students graduated from a six-month joint engineering program between the National Institute of Transport (NIT) and the Kenya Institute of Highways and Building Technology (KIHBT) at the NIT Mabibo Campus.

Speaking during the graduation ceremony, Dr. Prosper Mgaya, Rector of NIT, announced that NIT and KIHBT formalized their partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding in October 2023 in Nairobi, Kenya. This collaboration operates under the umbrella of the World Bank's East Africa Skills for Transformation and Regional Integration Project (EASTRIP). Dr. Mgaya stated that following the signing, discussions focused on implementing a student exchange and mobility program to fulfill EASTRIP's requirement for regional enrollment in long-course programs.

On his side Dr. Chacha Ryoba, Center Leader of the NIT Center of Excellence in Transport Operations under EASTRIP, elaborated on the program structure. He stated that each institution enrolled twenty students in two distinct programs: Power Train and Suspension Systems and Construction Material and Testing.

NIT students completed a one-month in-person phase of the program in Kenya, followed by five months of online instruction delivered by KIHBT lecturers. Conversely, KIHBT students completed a one-month in-person phase in Tanzania, followed by five months of online instruction delivered by NIT lecturers. While the Kenyan students graduated on June 19, 2025, the Tanzanian students received their certifications today, June 24, 2025. The graduates expressed optimism and enthusiasm for their future endeavors in the engineering field.
