Welcome to the Department of Education and Mathematics (EM). The department is responsible for offering Bachelor’s Degrees and Higher Diplomas in Education with Mathematics and Information Technology (BEMIT and HDEMIT); Mathematics and Economics (BEME and HDEME); and Mathematics and Geography (BEMG and HDEMG) to support the effort of the Government in increasing the number of qualified Mathematics teachers in secondary schools and higher learning institutions. The department offers cross-cutting mathematics courses to other faculties at the Institute including Engineering Mathematics, Quantitative Methods, Transport Mathematics and Business Mathematics. Additionally, the Department offers pedagogical skills to individuals aspiring to update their competences in Competence Based Curriculum (CBC) especially for those who aspires to become academicians in technical and vocational training institutions. Graduates in this field will be able to work as a professional technical teacher at Ordinary and Advanced Secondary schools, Training colleges, Educational Organizations, Business sectors/ areas, and Research centers.
