National Institute of Transport (NIT) in collaboration with Aerolink Solutions Ltd and in cooperation with the Athens Aviation Training Organization (AATO) has officially launched EASA Program at the National Institute of Transport.
The inauguration ceremony was held at NIT on 7th October, 2025 aiming at nurturing a new generation of highly skilled and internationally certified aircraft maintenance engineers.
The inauguration was officiated by Director General of Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority (TCAA) Mr. Salim Msangi as the guest of honor for the event. In his address during the launching ceremony Mr. Msangi congratulated the Institute for the remarkable achievement. He further stressed that NIT should continuously strive to have qualified instructors and state of art training facilities inorder to realize it's desired vision of becoming world class hub for aviation training.
On his side the NIT Resctor Eng.Dr.Prosper Mgaya thanked the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania under the leadership of the President Hon.Dr.Samia Suluhu Hassan for enabling NIT to reach the milestone.
"We are grateful to the Government for the tremendous support we have received, without their support we could not be able to attain this important achievement”.

The National Institute of Transport (NIT) is actively participating in the Africa Skills for Jobs Policy Academy, a four-day forum currently taking place in Nairobi, Kenya. The event, organized by the World Bank (WB) in partnership with the Inter-University Council for East Africa (IUCEA), began on 30th September 2025 and will conclude on 3rd October 2025.
Speaking during the forum, Eng. Dr. Prosper Mgaya, Rector of NIT, delivered an insightful presentation showcasing the transformative reforms and progress achieved under the East Africa Skills for Transformation and Regional Integration Project (EASTRIP). He highlighted key milestones, including the training and licensing of eight (8) Aircraft Maintenance Engineers, four (4) Cabin Crew, and eight (8) Pilots, alongside the acquisition of state-of-the-art training equipment and modern infrastructure to strengthen capacity in the aviation sector.
Dr. Mgaya also emphasized the Institute’s international recognition, notably from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). In addition, NIT has successfully secured four (4) Approved Training Organization (ATO) certifications, strengthening its position as a regional Centre of Excellence in Aviation and Transport Operations.
The Africa Skills for Jobs Policy Academy provides a critical platform for policy dialogue, knowledge exchange, and regional collaboration, with the goal of aligning Africa’s skills development agenda to the evolving needs of the labour market.

Mkuu wa Chuo cha Taifa cha Usafirishaji (NIT), Mha.Dkt. Prosper Mgaya, amezindua rasmi Bonanza la Michezo la Wafanyakazi kama sehemu ya maadhimisho ya miaka 50 tangu kuanzishwa kwa NIT.
Bonanza hilo limefanyika Septemba 22, 2025, katika viwanja vya Chuo vilivyopo Mabibo jijini Dar es Salaam likihusisha michezo mbalimbali ikiwemo mpira wa miguu, mpira wa kikapu, kuvuta kamba, kufukuza kuku na mazoezi ya viungo vya mwili.
Akizungumza wakati wa uzinduzi huo, Dkt. Mgaya alieleza kuwa lengo la bonanza hilo ni kuimarisha mshikamano na ushirikiano miongoni mwa wafanyakazi, pamoja na kuchangia katika kuboresha afya na ustawi wa wanajumuiya wa NIT.
“Lengo letu ni kuongeza ari ya utendaji kazi kupitia michezo, afya njema na mshikamano baina ya watumishi na jamii ya Chuo kwa ujumla,” alisema Dkt. Mgaya.
Aidha, Dkt. Mgaya aliahidi kufanyia kazi mapendekezo yote yaliyotolewa na Kamati ya Maandalizi ya bonanza hilo, hususa ni kuhusu ukarabati wa miundombinu ya michezo Chuoni .
Bonanza hili ni sehemu ya maadhimisho ya miaka 50 ya mafanikio ya Chuo katika kutoa mafunzo mbalimbali katika sekta ya usafirishaji.

Dar es Salaam, September 18, 2025 — The National Institute of Transport (NIT) has today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Aerotechnics Ltd, a leading company in the aviation industry, to enhance aviation training and expand global partnerships.
The agreement was signed at the Tibakweitira Council Chamber (NIT) in Dar es Salaam by NIT's Rector Eng. Dr. Prosper Mgaya, and the Board Chairperson of Aerotechnics Ltd, Eng.Jared Ajwang'a.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, Dr. Mgaya emphasized the significance of the partnership, stating:
“The agreement with Aerotechnics is aimed at enhancing aviation training at the institute to meet international standards in training delivery. This partnership will facilitate joint training programs that enable our students to obtain internationally recognized licenses, positioning NIT within the global aviation sphere and advancing aviation excellence at a global level. NIT is ready to establish programs that will enable our students to compete globally.”
On his part, the Board Chairperson of of Aerotechnics Ltd highlighted the importance of initiating strategic collaboration with NIT, noting:
“Through this partnership, we aim to advance aviation training at NIT to the global standard and the entire aviation industry. NIT has a strong foundation so we can help create globally certified and employable graduates. Our goal is to see NIT-trained professionals working across the world. This step marks the beginning of a strategic collaboration that will strengthen the aviation industry.”
The partnership is expected to lead to the establishment of joint training initiatives, exchange programs, and industry-standard certification courses, further cementing NIT’s role as a hub for aviation excellence in the region.

The National Institute of Transport (NIT) today 18th September 2025 inaugurated the first Consortium Board of its Regional Centre of Excellence for Road Safety (RCoERS), establishing a multi-sectoral approach to address the country's growing road safety crisis.
The board was officially inaugurated by the Chief Executive Officer of TANROADS Eng. Mohamed Besta, who emphasized that the center must be "impactful, sustainable, and visible" in its operations. The consortium brings together seven key institutions: Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Works, Muhimbili National Hospital, TARURA, TANROADS, LATRA, and the Traffic Police.
NIT Rector Dr. Prosper Mgaya outlined the center's regional vision, stating it would serve as a knowledge hub for East Africa, addressing road safety challenges through evidence-based interventions. The initiative comes as Tanzania faces a 6.6% increase in road fatalities, with 1,647 deaths recorded in 2023.
The center will focus on identifying high-risk road locations, improving speed management, addressing dangerous driving behaviors, enhancing vehicle safety standards, and developing better emergency response protocols. This aligns with Tanzania's commitment to the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety target of halving road deaths by 2030.
The newly formed board concluded the inauguration by committing to immediate action, with its first operational meeting scheduled for next week to develop and implement a comprehensive work plan for the center's inaugural year.

Hon. Prof. Makame Mbarawa, Minister of Transport, has officially opened the 3rd International Conference on Transport, Logistics, and Management (ICTLM 2025)
In his opening remarks, Prof. Mbarawa expressed appreciation to Her Excellency, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, for her vision in advancing Tanzania’s transport sector. He urged all stakeholders to work diligently to support the President’s initiatives.
He highlighted the National Institute of Transport’s (NIT) crucial role in training, research, and consultancy, noting its contribution to Tanzania Vision 2050 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Prof. Mbarawa expressed optimism that NIT, together with public and private partners, would continue improving societal well-being and safety by transforming knowledge into practical solutions.
Speaking at the event ,Prof. Ulingeta Mbamba, Chairperson of NIT’s Governing Council, highlighted that the conference serves as a key platform for exchanging ideas, and addressing the pressing challenges in the transport sector. He noted that it brings together experts, policymakers, and industry stakeholders to explore solutions that will advance Tanzania’s transport development and strengthen regional collaboration.
On his part, NIT's Rector Eng. Dr. Prosper Mgaya noted that, the conference reflects the government’s transformative initiatives and the growing demand for skilled professionals.He reaffirmed NIT’s commitment to serve as a strategic partner in delivering research-based, innovative, and practical solutions for the transport and logistics sector.

Akizungumza katika ziara hiyo, Mhe. Lela amesisitiza umuhimu wa kuunganisha elimu ya kitaaluma na mafunzo ya vitendo, akisema Serikali itaendelea kuwekeza katika taasisi kama NIT ambayo inalenga kutoa ujuzi unaokidhi mahitaji ya soko la kazi.
Amesisitiza kuwa elimu si tu maarifa ya kitabiri bali inapaswa kuwa lango la kutoa ajira na kukuza ubunifu nchini.
